Baldur's Gate 3 review

Baldur's Gate 3: An Anticipated Role-Playing Game Baldur's Gate 3, developed and published by Larian Studios, is a highly anticipated upcoming role-playing video game.

Based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system, it serves as the third main installment in the Baldur's Gate series. Set in the Forgotten Realms, the game presents a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the allure of absolute power. The Storyline The plot of Baldur's Gate 3 revolves around mysterious abilities awakening within the player, derived from a Mind Flayer parasite implanted in the brain. Players can either resist and turn darkness against itself or embrace corruption and become the ultimate evil. The game features a grand, cinematic narrative that immerses players in their characters' journey like never before.

Caught amidst a conflict involving devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, players collectively shape the fate of the Forgotten Realms. Based on the D&D 5e ruleset, the game incorporates team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, roll modifiers, along with combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategic planning and foresight.

Classes and Subclasses Baldur's Gate 3 offers a wide selection of D&D races and classes, each with its own subclasses that players can choose during character creation or when leveling up. The game provides both single-player and cooperative multiplayer elements, allowing players to form a party with computer-generated characters to explore the game's captivating story.

Each class possesses a unique set of skills, spells, strengths, and weaknesses, and players must select their specialization, unlocking new character features and possibilities as they gain experience points. The various subclasses offer distinct paths for players to improve their initial class and gain access to unique abilities and spells.

Choosing a Class When creating a character in Baldur's Gate 3, several factors define whether a specific class or race choice is advantageous or not. The best combinations are largely determined by the D&D 5th edition ruleset. It is crucial for players to pick a class that suits their playstyle, as it affects NPC interactions, spells available, and the level of damage, healing, or survivability they can achieve.

The Classes Baldur's Gate 3 boasts 12 classes and 46 subclasses, including:
1.    Barbarian
2.    Bard
3.    Cleric
4.    Druid
5.    Fighter
6.    Monk
7.    Paladin
8.    Ranger
9.    Rogue
10.    Sorcerer
11.    Warlock
12.    Wizard

Each class offers unique strengths and weaknesses, requiring players to make wise choices to excel in the game.
The Characters Players have the option to play as an origin character with a hand-crafted background or create their own character from scratch. Origin characters provide a bespoke experience, each with their own distinctive traits, agendas, and perspectives. Their stories intersect with the overarching narrative, and player decisions determine various outcomes, including redemption, salvation, domination, and more.

Gameplay Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to join forces in combat and split their party to pursue individual quests and goals. They can devise strategies together or introduce chaos when least expected. The game permits players to pause the world around them, even outside of combat, providing opportunities for tactical advantages, precise heists and escapes from fiendish traps.

The World The Forgotten Realms is a vast, intricate, and diverse world, filled with secrets waiting to be discovered. Verticality plays a pivotal role in exploration, enabling players to sneak, dip, shove, climb, and jump as they traverse from the depths of the Underdark to the splendid rooftops of the Upper City. Players' survival and the mark they leave on the world is entirely up to their choices.

Release Date Baldur's Gate 3 was released in early access format for Windows, macOS, and the Stadia streaming service on 6 October 2020. The game is expected to remain in early access until its full release on PC on 3 August 2023, followed shortly by a release on the PlayStation 5 on 6 September 2023. The Xbox Series X/S port is also in development, while the Stadia version was canceled following the service's closure.
